2008 Labor Day Championships
Chain Lightning
On more than one occasion, someone on Chain would absolutely fire down the field to cover a pull, and be right on top of the first thrower as he caught the disc. However, since only one player was doing this, the first throw would go up as normal. Thought: unless 2 players are really going to expend energy to cover the pull, no single player should.
Joel Wooten, like Katherine of Ozone, patrols the backfield and keeps an eye on huckers to be ready for double-teams. Both on O and D, Wooten scored several points in the middle of the semifinal to keep his team rolling. Forcing Wooten to chase a cutter towards the disc is crucial to opening up a deep game against Chain.
Chain doesn't practice often; which means that a semi-final appearance at Labor Day is even more impressive. As they focus together in the final months of the season, they should be much more ready for big games in October. Teaming Jason Simpson (not in attendance) with Zip/Tunnell/Wooten and their core of defensive handlers is going to be a very good combination, especially in good weather where they are all liable to go deep.
