2008 Labor Day Championships

Lady Godiva

from Kath Ratcliff:

After a loss in the first game of pool play at nationals last year, Zeitgeist had a bit of a bone to pick with Godiva. They run the classic east coast offense, looking to dump, swing, and continue as much as possible. Godiva only very rarely takes deep shots, which is too bad, as they have some of the game's most dominant cutters in Dom and VY, backed up by the unbelievably fast Jess Blanton, tall receiver Tracy Woo, and former Stanford cutter Anna Hare.

In spite of mediocre scores this weekend, I would not by any means count them out of anything after this weekend (I believe last year they also had a very tough weekend at Labor Day, followed up by a semifinal appearance at nationals). By stopping the around throws to the dumps/swings and fronting all but the last player, Zeitgeist was able to very effectively shut down their offensive flow. This game went our way, winning 14-5, but I doubt it was an indicator of Godiva's strength once the series comes around.
