The Huddle

People that know you unanimously describe you as being incredibly intelligent, as well as typically very quiet. You are also the only BOD candidate that (to our knowledge) was convinced by someone else to run. It has been said that reluctant leaders are the best kind...but we want to know if you really want to be on the Board. Do you? Why?

Well, I'm not sure what to say to the people that know me, but thanks, I'm flattered!

I was, in fact, approached about running for the board, but it's something I've been considering for a long time. Ultimate has been a major part of my life for almost 20 years, and there's no way I can give as much to the sport as it's given me. But I'm excited to see what our future holds, and I'd love and be honored to be a part of helping shape that future. I very much look forward to the opportunity to contribute what I can to help us decide who we should be going forward.

As I indicated in my position statement, and perhaps less articulately in my interview, I believe that I have the strengths and experience to be an effective board member. The policy issues the board works with often have no easy answers. The most I can promise is to work hard to fully understand all sides of the issues we consider and to keep an open mind as I approach the difficult topics. I'll strive to understand the views of various stakeholders, including members, the staff and the other board members, and to make the best decisions I can with the information I have. And my co-workers would tell you that, while I often am somewhat quiet in personal situations, I don't hesitate to make my thoughts and feelings known when I have strong beliefs about a subject or proper course of action.

Thanks for the opportunity to respond, and I encourage you (or anyone else) to contact me (seth.grossinger+ultimate@gmail.com) if you have any questions.
